Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has officially been appointed as the minister responsible for overseeing the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and Felda Global Ventures (FGV). Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as UMNO president and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, disclosed that he received a communication from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirming his new responsibilities.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid shared this development while delivering his winding-up speech at the 2025 UMNO General Assembly. He expressed his commitment to managing the affairs related to Felda and its settlers, acknowledging the significant responsibility that comes with the role. He noted that he would be supported by a deputy minister in this endeavor.
In a subsequent press conference, Ahmad Zahid clarified that Felda remains under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Department. He also mentioned that other entities, such as the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council, which he chairs, are similarly placed under the Prime Minister's Department. Ahmad Zahid highlighted that the role concerning Felda, which was previously informal, has now been formalized.
During his speech, Ahmad Zahid addressed UMNO's relationship with the Prime Minister, emphasizing that the party has never exerted undue pressure or made excessive demands. He affirmed UMNO's steadfast support for the current government and acknowledged the complexities of power-sharing among the 17 parties in the Unity Government. Ahmad Zahid underscored the importance of equitable distribution of positions while considering the requests of all coalition members.
