Pulau Ketam: Police have confirmed that the criminal known as ‘Ah Boy,’ who was shot dead in Pulau Ketam two days ago, acted alone in committing his crimes. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan assured the public that there is no need to fear retaliation from gang members or fellow criminals following the suspect’s death. Ah Boy had a record of 15 criminal offenses.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Hussein explained that the suspect’s criminal activities were self-driven, motivated by personal needs. “The suspect commits robberies, burglaries, and thefts to satisfy his own needs and repeats these acts as his funds deplete,” he said at a press conference. He emphasized that Ah Boy operated independently, thus reducing concerns about potential reprisals.
The suspect, in his 30s, was killed in a shootout with police in a Pulau Ketam hotel room on Tuesday morning. This followed a 10-day manhunt after a shooting incident at a Setia Alam shopping mall on February 8.
Datuk Hussein further elaborated that the suspect was involved in drug trafficking and use, having served two prison sentences, the last of which ended in 2019. He noted that drug use emboldened the suspect, making him ready to engage in shootouts, with syabu consumption preceding each crime.
Regarding the firearms found with Ah Boy, Datuk Hussein stated that investigations are ongoing to determine how he acquired the SIG Sauer and Retay pistols. “We suspect that the two pistols were purchased locally,” he added.
The post-mortem on Ah Boy’s body was completed the previous evening, confirming gunshot wounds as the cause of death. Datuk Hussein made these remarks at a ceremony for the handover of the new Selangor deputy police chief, SAC Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan, who replaces Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam.
