Kuala Lumpur: Global technology company ABB Malaysia Sdn Bhd is keen to look for more collaborations with local companies and agencies to support Malaysia’s goals in energy transition. ABB vice president of energy industries for Southeast Asia, Abhinav Harikumar, noted that the company has partnered with organisations such as the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) on energy efficiency. It also collaborated with local universities such as Universiti Malaya and Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) on carbon capture and storage (CCS) upskilling.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abhinav stated that ABB believes technology like CCS and hydrogen requires broad-level collaboration to get projects off the ground, secure investments, and implement them. With the energy transition mission, ABB is committed to seeking partnerships with other technology providers. Abhinav also commended Malaysia’s dedication to achieving net zero carbon emissions through the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
He highlighted the opportunities presented by new technologies to lower emissions and enhance operations by incorporating greener energy into existing facilities. Abhinav emphasized the importance of improving the reliability of current operations and remaining open to adopting newer technologies in the medium and long term.
ABB, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, boasts a history spanning more than 140 years.
