Kuala lumpur: Fitness has become the top priority for national men's doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik as they gear up for the new Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour season, which kicks off with the Malaysia Open on Jan 6. Aaron emphasized the importance of strengthening their physical conditioning due to the increasing demands of the sport, a busy tournament schedule, and the need to perform well as they advance in their careers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron stated that they are closely following planned training programs, including recovery sessions, to maintain their fitness. He shared these insights after a training session at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM) today. Aaron expressed support for the suggestion made by national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky, advocating for players to be selective in their tournament participation. He believes this approach will help manage their workload and sustain performance throughout the season.
Aaron hopes that their tournament schedule next season will include fewer than 20 events to ensure they stay in top physical condition. He mentioned the possibility of participating in around 18 to 20 tournaments, aiming to keep it under 20. Additionally, Aaron aspires to maintain their ranking in the top three, as it can be advantageous in certain aspects such as votes.
