Bachok:Undergoing two eye surgeries and facing hearing difficulties have not deterred 81-year-old Abdul Ghani Muhamad from achieving his dream of earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). He received his PhD in Sufism and Tariqa at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan's (UMK) convocation ceremony after completing four years of study.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdul Ghani had long aspired to pursue doctoral studies, but his responsibilities as a teacher and head of the family delayed his dream. His ambition became a reality after drawing inspiration from friends who had earned doctorates and held senior positions.
Despite health challenges, Abdul Ghani managed to keep up with current technology to complete his research, with help from his children and grandchildren. He expressed his determination to possibly pursue another doctorate if health and circumstances allow.
Abdul Ghani plans to continue his religious outreach through lectures, translation work, and book writing via his company. He has translated 39 books on Sufism into Jawi and Romanised Malay scripts, emphasizing that acquiring knowledge is a lifelong process without an age limit.
