Ipoh: A total of 66 preschool classes have been established in educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE), including one at the Teachers Education Institute of Malaysia (IPGM), as announced by Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh. Wong highlighted that this initiative also includes four classes at vocational colleges, eight at matriculation centers, and 53 at secondary schools (Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan/SMK).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the expansion of preschool classes is part of the MADANI Government's strategy to broaden educational opportunities by integrating preschools into various institutions such as vocational colleges, SMKs, and IPGMs. Wong emphasized the importance of providing preschool education within these institutions to cater to the needs of children of educators and others.
During a press conference following the 2026 Angpau Festival at the IPGM Ipoh Campus, Wong disclosed that the MOE had already expanded 150 preschool classes last year. This year, the plan includes the establishment of 350 additional preschool classes across different MOE institutions.
Wong further elaborated that last year, the MOE successfully accommodated 220,000 out of about 370,000 preschool students. The remaining students were served by the Community Development Department (KEMAS), the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN), and private kindergartens. He stressed that while government agencies and ministries provide free preschool education, private kindergartens charge fees, contributing to the ecosystem of early childhood education.
In addition to the educational initiatives, Wong noted that today's event underscored the nation's multicultural and multi-ethnic society, with IPGM members participating in various performances such as wushu, sketches, and diabolo, showcasing cultural diversity and unity.
