Kuala Lampur:Teams from six countries will compete in the 53rd edition of the COBRA 10s rugby tournament at Padang Astaka on October 31 and November 1.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this two-day tournament, one of Malaysia's longest-running rugby competitions, will feature 12 elite men's teams from Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Singapore.
This year's event will also introduce the inaugural COBRA 10s Carnival Weekend, combining the main international competition with the junior COBRA 10s Mini under a single event. COBRA Rugby Club president Darryll Sinnappa emphasized that this integration reflects the club's commitment to celebrating rugby development at all levels, from youth to experienced international players.
In addition to the men's competition, six women's teams and three veterans' teams are set to participate in exhibition matches. The COBRA 10s Mini is anticipated to attract around 2,000 young participants, including junior teams from Singapore and Sri Lanka, fostering grassroots talent development alongside the international competition.
As part of these grassroots efforts, TotalEnergies and COBRA will host interactive rugby coaching clinics at the club grounds and selected schools, offering aspiring players the chance to learn technical skills and sportsmanship directly from visiting international players.
