38 Areas Record Unhealthy API Levels Due to Haze

Kuala Lumpur:A total of 38 areas reported Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at an unhealthy level as of 9 am today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Department of Environment's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed Segamat, Johor, recording the highest API reading at 187, followed closely by Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, with a reading of 183.

In Selangor, several areas experienced unhealthy API levels, including Johan Setia (178), Shah Alam (170), Banting (167), Klang (166), Petaling Jaya (165), and Kuala Selangor (155). Cheras and Batu Muda in the capital recorded readings of 172 and 168, respectively, while Putrajaya had a reading of 173.

Pahang saw Rompin with an API of 174, Indera Mahkota and Balok Baru Kuantan both at 165, and Temerloh at 153. In Negeri Sembilan, Seremban recorded 182 and Port Dickson 168. Melaka's affected areas included Bukit Rambai (172), Melaka City (171), and Alor Gajah (167).

In Johor, Pasir Gudang recorded 180, Kluang 179, Larkin 178, Tangkak 172, Pengerang 165, Kota Tinggi 164, and Batu Pahat 161. Perak saw unhealthy readings in Seri Manjung (160), Tasek Ipoh (159), Taiping (154), Pegoh Ipoh (153), and Tanjung Malim (152).

Two areas in Terengganu, Kemaman (155) and Paka (146), as well as three areas in Penang, Seberang Perai (156), Minden (155), and Seberang Jaya (153), also recorded unhealthy readings. Additionally, Sungai Petani in Kedah recorded an API of 153.

Overall, 30 areas reported moderate API readings, while no areas were recorded with good air quality. API readings between 0 and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings exceeding 300 are deemed hazardous.
