Shah alam: Competing in the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026 is not merely a contest for Malaysia's 22 representatives, but a vital effort to elevate the dignity and aspirations of the nation's youth in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) field, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad, the Chef de Mission for WSC, advised participants to apply three key pillars as guiding principles to ensure their success at the prestigious international skills competition from Sept 22 to 27.
"The first pillar is emotional management and the zero reset concept. If you make a mistake on the first day of competition, immediately discard it from your mind. Do not let the sorrow of the first day ruin your gold potential on the second and third days. Every day is a new test. Rise and make up for lost points without feeling apprehensive," he said in his speech during the WSC 2026 contingent mandate and send-off ceremony at the Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training (CIAST) in Section 19 here today.
Ahmad called upon participants to respect competition procedures and master the scoring scheme to ensure their high skill level translates into the best performance. "High skill without strong discipline in adhering to the scoring criteria will not earn a medal. Listen to your experts' instructions, examine every technical variable, and avoid minor carelessness that could result in precious points being deducted," he said.
He also reminded participants to look after their health and discipline during their stay in Shanghai, as the tight competition schedule requires good physical management. "The schedule in Shanghai will be demanding. Weather, diet, and sleeping hours must be carefully managed. Do not let fever or physical fatigue steal the fruits of your hard work over the years," he said.
Last Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is also scheduled to attend WSC 2026 in Shanghai to offer moral support to the national contingent competing in the world-renowned skills competition. Anwar's presence at the competition will mark the first time a Prime Minister has attended in person to extend direct support to the national contingent.
