2026 Budget: KPKT Seeking Additional Allocation For Infrastructure Projects

Taiping: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is seeking additional funds under the 2026 Budget to double the implementation of new and upgraded public infrastructure projects, aiming for 10,000 projects annually. Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, stated that the proposal will be presented to the Minister of Finance later this month. He highlighted that the ministry implemented 6,611 projects last year, making it the highest-performing ministry in Malaysia. “This year, we are aiming higher…targeting 10,000 public infrastructure projects in a single year,” he announced during a press conference at the ‘Sentuhan Kasih KPKT Taiping’ program at Pasar Taiping and Pasar Siang Malam.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the press conference was attended by notable figures including Taiping Member of Parliament Wong Kah Woh, who is Deputy Education Minister, Local Government Department Director-General Datuk Mohd. Fadzli Mohd. Kenali, National Landscape Department Director-General Mansor Mohamad, and Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) president Khairul Amir Mohamad Zubir. Nga also visited several significant sites in Taiping, including the Kamunting Public Market and the Flood Mitigation Project in Taman Kamunting Maju. These visits highlighted key developments as part of Taiping’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Nga further announced that KPKT will allocate an additional RM10.4 million for infrastructure development and upgrading works involving 35 projects in Taiping. The projects comprise infrastructure upgrades in Bandar Taiping City, landscape development at Lapang Tanjung Sungai Mas, non-Muslim houses of worship, and initiatives related to new housing construction and new village development. Nga assured that these projects have been approved under the fifth Rolling Plan and their implementation is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

In addition to these projects, Nga mentioned that KPKT has five major projects in progress in Taiping, including a RM10 million upgrade of Taiping Lake Gardens. This project aims to establish the gardens as a premier tourist attraction and the most beautiful lake park in Malaysia.
