2024 Understanding China Conference Spotlights Modernisation, Global Cooperation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2024 Understanding China Conference took place at the Guangzhou Yuexiu International Congress Center on Dec 3, convening over 600 participants from political, strategic, business, academic, and think tank sectors, both domestic and international.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the conference was themed ‘Carrying Reform Forward: Chinese Modernization and New Opportunities for World Development’ and was organised by the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, and the Guangdong Provincial Government. This event has emerged as a key international platform for dialogue on China’s development strategy, with an increase in global participation, including over 100 international delegates and representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, and several former heads of state and high-ranking officials.

The event featured a broad range of activities, including keynote speeches at the opening ceremony, six parallel seminars, 14 thematic forums, two closed-door discussions, and multiple supporting activities. It attracted over 100 media outlets from both China and abroad, emphasizing its role in fostering international engagement.

Discussions focused on China’s reforms and modernisation process, highlighting their contribution to national development and global growth and stability. Former Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome pointed out that China’s progress presents new opportunities for international development and cooperation.

This year’s event underscored the global significance of China’s reforms and the progress of Chinese-style modernisation, addressing topics such as the unity of China’s ethnic groups, cultural preservation, and the advancement of women in leadership roles.
