Sepang:A total of 155 officers and members from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), along with 12 assets, have been deployed to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) for the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026. The event aims to ensure optimal safety, emergency preparedness, and rescue operations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JBPM director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad stated that this deployment reflects the department's commitment to supporting international-level sports events in Malaysia. The assignment emphasizes the importance of maintaining safety and operational readiness.
The department is fully prepared to support large-scale events, especially those involving the public, participants, and delegates from both within and outside the country. The strategic deployment of JBPM officers, personnel, and assets aims to ensure that any emergency or rescue needs are addressed swiftly and effectively.
Twelve departmental assets have been mobilized for the event, including a Fire Rescue Tender, two Compact Fire Rescue Tenders, a 10,000-litre water tanker, three Emergency Medical Rescue Services ambulances, and four JBPM buses. Additionally, an A109E helicopter is stationed at the SIC to enhance operational readiness and support monitoring and rescue operations if required.
Nor Hisham highlighted that 153 officers and firefighters, including fire marshals, medical teams, and medevac personnel, have been assigned to ensure preparedness at the event. Coordination between JBPM, event organizers, and related agencies has been strengthened to maintain the operational readiness level throughout the grand prix.
The safety of visitors, participants, officers, and all involved parties remains a top priority, with JBPM ensuring that all operations adhere to established standard operating procedures. The Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026, a prestigious motorsport event, marks the return of Formula 1 to Malaysia after a hiatus since 2017.
