Melaka:A total of 132 Community Development Department (KEMAS) preschools designed for children with autism will commence operations next January. The admission screening process for these children is scheduled to open next month in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, as announced by KEMAS director-general, Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man expressed optimism that the initiative would benefit nearly 2,000 children with autism, given the high number of applications from parents. However, each class will be limited to a maximum of 15 children, with three teachers per class. This ensures that each teacher supervises five to seven children, adhering to established standards.
The announcement was made during the Melaka State KEMAS Community Festival 2026 at Semabok Dalam Multipurpose Hall, where Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh officiated the event.
Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man highlighted that a prerequisite for attending these classes is obtaining a Persons with Disabilities (PwD) card from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).
