122 Project Extensions Planned For Penang 2026

Penang: A total of 122 extension projects are planned to be implemented in 2026 in Penang, covering public infrastructure, community facilities, and special economic projects, which are expected to be realised smoothly. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has called on all implementing departments and agencies at the state and federal levels to be mobilised in an integrated manner with a spirit of shared responsibility to ensure that every high-impact project under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in Penang can be implemented effectively.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chow emphasized the need for modern infrastructure and an efficient public transport system in the rapidly developing state, noting that improved mobility will enhance the state's productivity and competitiveness. He highlighted key projects such as the Juru-Sungai Dua Elevated Expressway Project, the construction of Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit pillars, and the expansion of Penang International Airport as critical initiatives actively pursued through state and federal cooperation.

Chow further explained that strategic projects like the Penang IC Design and Digital Park, Penang Chip Design Academy, and Silicon Research and Incubation Space are expected to generate high-income job opportunities and attract investments from global technology companies. He stressed the importance of supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the social economy, local entrepreneurship, and creating high and medium-skill jobs to strengthen the people's economy.

He also mentioned initiatives such as upskilling and reskilling, and support for gig workers, which are aimed at ensuring economic growth benefits households and local communities. The focus on a green economy, creative industries, digital technology, and social innovation is intended to create new job opportunities while maintaining environmental balance and promoting social justice.

Chow expressed gratitude and pride in seeing Penang advance and contribute significantly to national development during his final term as Chief Minister. He attributed Penang's strength to its strategic location, rich historical heritage, and the spirit and capability of its people to drive sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Chow reaffirmed the state government's commitment to balanced and comprehensive development, as outlined in the Penang 2030 Vision: A Smart and Green Family-Centred State Inspired by the Nation, and in alignment with the MADANI Malaysia framework.
