12-Year-Old Hero Saves Friend from Drowning at Langkawi Beach

Langkawi: A quick-thinking, courageous action by a 12-year-old boy saved his friend from drowning at Pantai Pasir Hitam in Langkawi today. Faris Danish Zulfadli, a pupil at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Penghulu Ahmad, said that during the incident, he and two friends had just finished cross-country running practice before heading to the beach to rest.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Faris recounted that one of his friends fell into the sea, possibly after slipping on the rocks. Initially assuming his friend could swim, Faris hesitated to act. However, after noticing his friend's prolonged absence underwater, he bravely decided to jump in to rescue him. Faris, who is also a sailing athlete and head of his school's Malaysian Red Crescent Society unit, performed CPR on his friend before calling his father for assistance.

Faris's father, Zulfadli Mohd Yusoff, expressed pride in his son's bravery. Upon arriving at the scene, he sought help from a foreign tourist to further assist his son's friend, who was then carried upside down to expel water from his lungs. The friend regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

The Langkawi district police chief, ACP Khairul Azhar Nuruddin, confirmed the incident. The young victim, initially treated at Sultanah Maliha Hospital, was later transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for further medical care.
