Penang: The state government anticipates over 10,000 visitors at the 68th Penang state-level National Day celebration at Batu Kawan Stadium this Sunday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang, who also serves as the State Government Official Councils chairman, announced that the event will feature 122 contingents comprising 7,533 participants. These participants represent various departments, state and federal agencies, statutory bodies, subsidiaries, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Furthermore, the celebration will include 22 vehicle contingents with 958 participants and 676 vehicles. The total number of committee members and staff involved is 1,531, making the total number of contingents and secretariats this year 10,072.
The festivities, running from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, will include a patriotic choir performance by Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Jit Sin, cultural dance performances, a Gendang Muhibah performance, a guard of honour from the Royal Malay Regiment, and vehicle assets from various departments.
Additionally, Law noted that 21 exhibition stalls will be set up by various departments and agencies. The event will also showcase assets and heavy machinery from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), which are expected to attract a wide audience.
This year’s theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni,” reflects the government’s vision to enhance national development through human values, social well-being, and justice. The Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife, along with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, his wife, state leaders, and other dignitaries, are expected to attend the celebration.
