Zenix Aerospace Upeca Enhances Capabilities to Elevate Malaysia’s Aerospace Industry

Selangor: Zenix Aerospace Upeca is strengthening its manufacturing capabilities, digitalisation efforts, and workforce development as part of its long-term strategy to help elevate Malaysia's position in the global aerospace value chain and drive sustainable industry growth. Its quality and engineering director, Superemaneyam Kuppusamy, said Malaysia has all the fundamental ingredients to become a leading aerospace hub in Southeast Asia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the company is committed to supporting the growth of the aerospace industry by continuously evaluating opportunities to enhance its operational capabilities, technological competitiveness, and workforce readiness. "Our focus remains on strengthening manufacturing excellence through investments in process improvement, digitalisation, advanced manufacturing technologies, and quality enhancement initiatives. We are also actively developing our workforce through technical training, leadership development, and capability-building programs to ensure our teams remain equipped to meet evolving customer requirements," Kuppusamy told BERNAMA.

In addition, Kuppusamy said Zenix Aerospace Upeca continues to support strategic initiatives related to operational efficiency, sustainability, and aerospace industry best practices. "These efforts are aligned with our long-term objective of delivering high-quality products and services while strengthening our position within the global aerospace supply chain," he explained.

He noted that Malaysia's aerospace supply chain has made significant progress over the past two decades, emerging as an important contributor to the global aerospace ecosystem with strengths in aerostructures manufacturing, precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, composite materials, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and engineering services. Malaysia's competitive advantage lies in its well-established aerospace industrial base, underpinned by internationally recognised certifications such as AS9100 and Nadcap.

Superemaneyam highlighted that local aerospace players have successfully integrated into global supply chains, supplying components and services to leading aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. "The country also benefits from a strategic geographic location, competitive operating costs, and a multilingual workforce capable of supporting international business requirements," he stated.

However, he mentioned that some areas require further development. Malaysia remains largely concentrated in build-to-print manufacturing and Tier 2 or Tier 3 supplier roles. The industry must continue to move up the value chain by increasing its participation in product development, advanced engineering, digital manufacturing, and technological innovation. "In addition, challenges remain in talent availability, supply chain localisation, raw material dependence, and the strengthening of small and medium enterprises' participation in aerospace programmes. Overall, Malaysia has built a solid foundation, but the next phase of growth will require stronger technological capabilities, deeper local supply chains, and increased innovation-led competitiveness," he said.

He further stated that recent disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions, logistics bottlenecks, and raw material shortages, have highlighted the importance of supply chain resilience as a strategic priority. To address these risks, aerospace companies are increasingly diversifying their supplier base to strengthen business continuity while improving visibility across their supply chains. "While lean manufacturing remains important, many aerospace organisations are introducing risk-based inventory management approaches for critical materials and components. Today, resilience is built through agility, collaboration, digitalisation, and proactive risk management," Kuppusamy stated.

Zenix Aerospace Upeca actively participates in industry exhibitions, aerospace conferences, customer engagement activities, talent development programs, and industry collaboration initiatives throughout the year. Superemaneyam said these events provide valuable opportunities for customers, suppliers, students, and industry stakeholders to learn more about Zenix Aerospace Upeca's capabilities, explore potential partnerships, and gain insights into developments within the aerospace sector. "We encourage interested parties to follow our official communication channels, including LinkedIn and corporate announcements, for updates on upcoming events, recruitment opportunities, and industry engagements," he said.

Reflecting the company's commitment to industry development, Superemaneyam participated in the Selangor Aerospace Forum today as a panelist for the session 'Strengthening Malaysia's Aerospace Supply Chain: Integration, Resilience and Global Positioning.' The two-day Selangor Aerospace Forum, which concludes today, is part of the broader MyAERO Summit, which showcases advancements in aerospace and astronautics technology, as well as unmanned systems and drone development.
