Zakat Fitrah Rates in Perak Set at RM10, RM16, and RM27 Based on Rice Consumption

Perak: The zakat fitrah (personal tithe) rate in Perak for this year has been set at RM10, RM16, and RM27, depending on the type of rice consumed by individuals.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Deputy Mufti Datuk Zamri Hashim announced that the RM10 rate applies to those who consume MADANI rice, local rice, and imported white rice. For individuals consuming parboiled rice, brown rice, and fragrant rice, the rate is set at RM16, while the rate for those consuming basmati rice and glutinous rice is RM27. This announcement was made during a ceremony specifically held to reveal the zakat fitrah rates.

In comparison to last year, the zakat fitrah rates for the three categories of rice consumption were RM8, RM16, and RM24, respectively. During the same event, the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) introduced the Bestari app. This digital innovation features a QR system designed to offer a more convenient, fast, and secure process for zakat payments. Payments can be made through appointed amil (zakat collectors) or directly to MAIPk.

The launch of the Bestari app was officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, with MAIPk president Tan Sri Annuar Mohd Zaini present at the event. The app also provides users the opportunity to engage in wakaf (endowment) programmes with contributions starting from RM1.
