Kuala Lumpur: Zakat (tithe) collection through appointed agents of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) has reached RM74.34 million in 2024, marking a 17.4 per cent increase from RM63.28 million the previous year. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, attributed this achievement to the public’s strong confidence in PPZ-MAIWP authorised agents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Na’im congratulated all agents for their achievement, stating that it reflects the rising trust among zakat payers in the PPZ-MAIWP agent network. He expressed confidence that this figure will continue to rise in line with ongoing system enhancements and service improvements on each platform. The minister made these comments at the PPZ-MAIWP Zakat Collection Agents Appreciation Ceremony held in the city.
The event also celebrated sixteen high-performing agent companies for their contributions in expanding access to zakat services in 2024. These agents have been recognized for their efforts in promoting awareness and understanding of zakat obligations, thereby supporting PPZ-MAIWP’s social and welfare mission.
Key attendees at the ceremony included MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, PPZ-MAIWP chairman Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin, and PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Hakim Amir Osman. In a related development, PPZ-MAIWP released a statement urging the public to channel their zakat through its appointed agents to avoid fraud or misinformation.
