CYBERJAYA: The youths of Malaysia and China are integral to perpetuate the success of diplomatic relations enjoyed between the two countries for the last 50 years, Malaysia-China Friendship Association President Datuk Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan said. The former Malaysian ambassador to China stated that the youths have a responsibility to keep the flame of friendship burning through understanding and appreciation of each other’s language and culture.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdul Majid emphasized the importance of youth involvement as the countries move forward over the next 50 years. He expressed optimism about various programs designed to strengthen this partnership through language and cultural exchange, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding between the two nations. He shared these views during the Suara Semua Carnival held at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
The Suara Semua Carnival, a cross-cultural singing contest, was organized by Kunkwan International Mandarin Learning
Centre in collaboration with Limkokwing University. The event featured performances by 10 Malay contestants singing Mandarin songs and 10 Chinese contestants performing Malay songs, aiming to promote cultural exchange and strengthen ties between Malaysia and China.
Highlights of the event included a colouring contest, a special gallery showcasing historical photographs of the Malaysia-China diplomatic relationship over the last 50 years, and live performances by popular Malaysian artists. Distinguished guests such as Malaysian National News Agency Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Kunkwan Founder Kent Ng, and Limkokwing University Group Chief Brand Officer Datuk Tiffanee Marie Lim were also present.
Wong, in his speech, highlighted the growing confidence that Malaysia-China relations will strengthen over the coming years, emphasizing the importance of people-to-people connections in elevating the partnership. He noted that while past relations have focused on gover
nment and business leaders, there is now a significant emphasis on fostering connections between the people of both nations.
Malaysia celebrated its 50th anniversary of establishing bilateral diplomatic ties with China on May 31. Trade remains a cornerstone of this relationship, with bilateral trade growing more than five-fold over the past two decades and now exceeding US$99 billion, making China Malaysia’s largest trading partner for the past 15 consecutive years.
