Youth Parliament Engagement Tour With Universities to Shape New Format

Kuching: The Malaysian Parliament is set to embark on a nationwide engagement tour targeting public universities and private higher learning institutions (IPTS) to gather input on a new format for the Youth Parliament. Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul announced that these sessions would also address the proposed election process for Youth Parliament representatives, emphasizing the importance of student input in the initiative’s development.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johari highlighted that the new Youth Parliament format has not yet been finalized. The intention of the tour is to seek university perspectives on various issues, including whether each institution should establish its own political party or if multiple universities could collaborate to form a single entity. This was stated during a lecture titled “Dari Sarawak ke ASEAN: Mengangkat Aspirasi Belia dalam Arena Serantau” at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

Johari further mentioned that the final framework for the new format is anticipated to be completed by September or October this year. The election of Youth Parliament representatives is scheduled for November, with the inaugural meeting of the Youth Parliament expected in January or February of the following year.
