Youth Age Limit Amendment: Govt Assures Continued Support for Those 30 and Above

Kuala lumpur: All government assistance for individuals aged 30 and above will remain intact, despite the upcoming enforcement of an amendment that lowers the youth age limit to 30. This assurance was provided during a session in the Dewan Rakyat.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh confirmed that the Cabinet had approved a memorandum regarding the Coordination of Government Support and Assistance for Youth Post-Enforcement of the Lowered Age Limit. This memorandum, presented by the ministry at a recent meeting, ensures the continuation of support for those affected by the age classification change.

Minister Yeoh emphasized, “Even though they will no longer be classified as youth, we will ensure that the assistance reaches them. For example, the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives offers various grants for young people aged 30 and above, and they can still apply for these funds.” She highlighted that special grants for young farmers in the agricultural sector would also be maintained, ensuring ongoing support for their endeavors.

The decision to lower the youth age limit to 30 stems from amendments made to the Youth Societies and Youth Development Act 2019. Despite this legislative change, the government remains committed to providing necessary assistance to those who fall outside the new age classification.
