Young Women’s Group Advocates for Gender-Responsive Budgeting in 2027

Accra:The Perantis Wanita Muda Secretariat has put forward a proposal for the federal government to allocate at least one percent of its 2027 expenditure to be identified, mapped, and monitored through a gender-responsive budgeting approach. This initiative was part of a memorandum submitted to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the memorandum was handed over by the secretariat coordinator, Tina Tajuddin, to S. Kavaramma, the Perak Women's Development director, at the Urban Transformation Centre. The recommendations are aligned with the National Women's Policy 2025-2030's core pillars economy, leadership, safety, and well-being, aiming to foster more inclusive and effective development for women.

Tina Tajuddin emphasized that the proposal is not a request for new or additional funding. Instead, it focuses on improving tracking, coordination, transparency, and evaluation of how current allocations meet women's needs. She noted the importance of considering the needs of young women in national budget planning, highlighting that gender-responsive budgeting involves more than merely distributing funds.

Tina also expressed her hope that the ministry would take the memorandum into account to enhance gender-responsive budgeting, optimize the use of existing allocations, and ensure fairer development outcomes.

S. Kavaramma stated that the memorandum would be forwarded to the ministry for further consideration, expressing optimism that the relevant authorities would review the proposals carefully.
