Young Sabahans Encouraged to Vote Thoughtfully in Upcoming Election

Kota kinabalu: With less than a week before Sabahans cast their ballots, young people, who form a large portion of the electorate, have been urged to conduct proper and thorough research on every candidate seeking their trust. Sayang Sabah Community Club deputy president Steve Johnny Mositun emphasized the importance of approaching the coming state election with calmness and clarity, highlighting the critical role each vote plays in shaping the future of Sabah.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mositun advised voters not to let emotions, anger, or frustration cloud their judgment. He urged them to rely on careful thought rather than impulses triggered by “social media noise” or unverified claims. He encouraged voters to take time to understand the backgrounds, past performance, and values of the candidates, emphasizing the need to assess whether the promises made in manifestos are realistic, practical, and backed by genuine intentions to improve the lives of Sabahans.

Mositun also called on the public to reject hate politics that divide communities along lines of race, district, generation, or economic background. He stressed that unity has long been Sabah’s strength and warned young voters about the detrimental effects of money politics, which can harm the state and weaken the democratic process. He urged voters not to be swayed by short-term incentives or inducements that could negatively impact the long-term wellbeing of their community.

He further encouraged voters to opt for leaders who prioritize service over personal interest and demonstrate consistency in their commitments. He advised that each manifesto should be carefully weighed, considering whether the proposals align with Sabah’s real needs and aspirations. Mositun expressed his belief that youths have the power to reshape Sabah’s political landscape by voting with maturity, awareness, and integrity.

Polling is scheduled for November 29, with early voting on November 25.
