Johor Bahru:A two-year-old girl, Nur Haira Wafiqah, has undergone three surgeries following an attack by five stray dogs in Kampung Tambak, Peserai last month and will require several more procedures before being discharged from the hospital.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the girl's father, Mohammad Hamizi Hamdan, stated that Nur Haira is currently being treated at the Paediatric Special Surgery Ward of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Bahru. She is under the care of seven specialist doctors who are closely monitoring her condition.
The initial surgeries focused on addressing and closing wounds on various parts of her body and head caused by the dog bites. Although the injuries on her legs, arms, and body are healing, her head wounds still need intensive care. Nur Haira is scheduled for another head surgery this week.
Mohammad Hamizi explained that after this week's surgery, further operations will concentrate on tissue treatment, including the removal, repair, and transplantation of damaged tissues. These surgeries will occur periodically, and she is expected to remain hospitalized for several more months.
He shared that his wife, Nur Wahyuni Harun, stays with their daughter at the hospital while he travels between Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru two to three times a week. After the first surgery, which lasted over seven hours, Nur Haira regained consciousness three days later, initially not recognizing anyone but eventually identifying her parents.
Currently, she is in stable condition, able to talk and eat normally, though doctors have warned of potential permanent impairments, including impaired hair growth on parts of her head.
Meanwhile, Datin Adib Nafilah Abu Dardak, chairman of Pelitawanis TNB Johor Batu Pahat Branch, noted that their recent visit aimed to check on Nur Haira's condition and provide financial support to ease the family's burden.
The attack occurred around 7 am on September 5, leaving Nur Haira with severe injuries across her body. Batu Pahat District Police Chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that she was initially treated at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital before being transferred to HSA for further specialist care.
