Yong Peng Student’s Death Sparks Investigation After School Hall Discovery

Yong Peng:A secondary school student in Yong Peng was tragically found dead, shocking her family and abruptly ending her aspirations of becoming a doctor like her late mother.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim, Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, 16, was academically gifted and had dreams of specializing in gynaecology and public health. Her aunt, Siti Nur Faeza Khyar, recalled a conversation where Irene expressed her ambition to pursue a career in medicine due to a shortage of female doctors in certain fields.

The incident unfolded when Irene's friends noticed her absence from extra classes and informed Siti Nur Faeza, a Biology teacher at Sekolah Menengah Jalan Kota Tinggi. Accompanied by Irene's grandmother and classmates, they discovered her lying in the school hall, covered in blood but still responsive.

Despite their efforts, Irene passed away before medical help could arrive. The family is currently seeking justice, hoping for appropriate punishment for the responsible party.

The victim's grandfather, Khyar Abas, who had raised her since her mother died of liver cancer, expressed his sorrow and noted her good nature and popularity among peers and teachers. No signs of distress were apparent during their breakfast together on the day of the incident.

A 16-year-old male suspect has been remanded for six days to assist in the investigation. Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that the teenager was arrested shortly after police received the report about the incident.
