Wushu Federation of Malaysia Targets Two Medals at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games

Kuala lumpur: The Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) has set an ambitious goal for the national wushu team to secure two medals at the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, scheduled from September 19 to October 4. This target reflects the federation's confidence in the athletes' performances during their recent training sessions in China.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, WFM President Datuk Chong Kim Fatt revealed that the decision to aim for two medals was made after evaluating the athletes' progress. Although the specific colors of the medals were not disclosed, the assessment results have motivated the team to pursue this dual-medal aspiration. "So far we set a target of one medal, but after making an assessment, we expect we might be able to get two medals. We will try our best for Malaysia," Kim Fatt stated during a visit by Malaysia's Deputy Chefs de Mission, Mohamad Azlan Iskandar and Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi, to the national wushu training camp.

Kim Fatt further mentioned that the national squad is in excellent condition and well-prepared to compete in the games after a rigorous two-month training period in China. The training was complemented by ongoing support and oversight from management and coaches. "Even though they underwent training for two months in China, we held online discussions almost every week, including twice a week with the team manager," he added.

The current wushu squad comprises an even mix of new and seasoned athletes, with hopes pinned on a few events offering medal-winning potential. Reflecting on past achievements, Kim Fatt recalled that in the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou, national athlete Tan Cheong Min secured a silver medal in the women's nanquan-nandao event, marking Malaysia's sole wushu medal at that time.
