World Para Athletics: Abdul Latif Tops SHAKAM Reward List

Kuala lumpur: Para long jumper Datuk Abdul Latif Romly has topped the list of recipients under the Sports Victory Reward Scheme (SHAKAM) with a RM79,333 incentive for his gold medal feat at last month’s 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi. National Sports Council director-general Jefri Ngadirin announced that Abdul Latif would receive RM69,333 for winning the F20 (intellectual impairment) long jump event and an additional RM10,000 for setting a new world record of 7.67 metres.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abdul Latif’s achievement was celebrated at a press conference held after a ceremony to welcome home the national para athletics team at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1. Jefri further elaborated on the rewards for other athletes, stating that Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli would receive RM8,000 for his bronze in the F20 shot put event, and Muhammad Nazmi Nasri would receive RM16,000 for his bronze in the T37 long jump.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh was present to welcome the athletes. She expressed pride in the achievements of the para athletes, highlighting the emergence of a new generation of competitors. She encouraged the athletes to continue setting new world records and maintaining their winning streaks.

Meanwhile, Abdul Latif shared his future aspirations, targeting success at the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Para Games scheduled for next year. He expressed gratitude for regaining his performance level and overcoming past disappointments. His immediate goal is to defend his Asian Para Games gold medal for the fourth consecutive time and then focus on the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
