Kuala Lumpur: The Works Ministry has sanctioned 16 work orders with a total value of RM47.45 million to address the damage to federal roads in Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, and Kudat. These areas have been identified as having severe road damage that requires urgent attention.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced the ministry’s approval after assessing the priority list and evaluating the extent of the damage. The total estimated cost for repairs in the critically affected regions has been calculated at RM71.2 million. The road maintenance strategy will focus on heavy patching and reinforcing the road base with geo-grid and glass grid materials to improve the structure of the roads. The concessionaire began the repair work on-site in early February 2025.
The announcement was made during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat, in response to an inquiry from Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (KDM-Kota Marudu). The question addressed the ministry’s plans for repairing unsafe federal roads, with a focus on the challenges in Kota Marudu and throughout Sabah due to existing damage and potholes.
Furthermore, Ahmad highlighted that the total application for periodic pavement maintenance on federal roads in Sabah for the year 2025 amounts to RM421.99 million. Out of this, RM117 million has already been approved as of February 2025.
