Kuala lumpur: E-hailing companies are encouraged to provide female driver options for women passengers as part of efforts to improve their safety and comfort, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He stated that this option would give women passengers an alternative that prioritizes their well-being when using e-hailing services.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke highlighted this initiative during his speech at the Wanita DAP National Congress 2026, where he appeared as the party's secretary-general. He emphasized that women leaders should promote the feature of selecting a female driver when using e-hailing services. Additionally, Loke urged e-hailing companies to introduce carpooling options exclusively for women passengers, allowing them to share rides only with other women.

On rail services, Loke mentioned that safety measures are being strengthened through the provision of women-only coaches, following frequent complaints about sexual harassment, particularly during peak hours. He noted that women make up nearly two-thirds of total rail passengers, thus making their protection a priority.

Meanwhile, Loke discussed efforts to empower women in the transport sector by creating more opportunities in traditionally male-dominated fields such as aviation and maritime industries. He stressed the importance of challenging gender stereotypes to ensure women are given opportunities based on their abilities, asserting that women can perform tasks like flying aircraft just as men do.
