Johor bahru: A housewife and an unemployed man have pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to charges of attempting to murder the woman's husband in an incident that occurred last month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, N. Egavalli, 46, and R. Kamala Sarna, 39, entered their pleas before Judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee. The pair are accused of trying to kill G. Kumaresan, 48, by allegedly covering his face with a pillow at their residence in Taman Ehsan, Johor Bahru, around 9:30 pm on December 22.
The charges against them fall under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 34, which could result in a prison term of up to 10 years and a fine if they are convicted.
Judge Mohd Zamir set the bail at RM20,000 with two sureties for each defendant. Additionally, he instructed that Egavalli and Sarna must not approach the victim and ordered them to surrender their passports to the court. They are also required to report to the police station monthly.
The next mention of the case has been scheduled for February 3. Deputy public prosecutor R. Nevina is leading the prosecution, while the defendants are represented by K. Bharathi from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
