Kuching: A 35-year-old local woman suffered losses amounting to RM91,000 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scam.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the victim was lured into the scheme through the Telegram application by an unknown individual who promised attractive returns on investment.
The victim, enticed by the offer, was instructed to transfer money to specific accounts. She proceeded to make five transactions, sending a total of RM91,000 to five different bank accounts. It was only after her attempts to withdraw both the invested capital and the promised profits proved futile that she realized she had been scammed.
Alexson further mentioned that the case is currently under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
