Woman Detained for Alleged Disrespect to Islam During Ramadan on TikTok

Kuala pilah: The Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) is actively investigating a case involving a woman who allegedly showed disrespect towards the holy month of Ramadan during a live TikTok session. The incident reportedly took place last Sunday and has since sparked widespread attention.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JHEAINS director Datuk Mohd Asri Abdullah confirmed the arrest of the 27-year-old woman in Kuala Pilah. She is currently under investigation under Section 50 of the Negeri Sembilan Syariah Criminal Enactment 1992. The charges pertain to allegedly insulting or bringing disrepute to Islam, a serious offense under the enactment.

The controversy arose after a video went viral showing the woman interacting with her followers around 6.45 pm, during which she was seen openly eating and drinking. This act, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, has been considered disrespectful by many in the Muslim community.

Mohd Asri emphasized the importance of respecting religious sensitivities, especially during Ramadan, and urged the public to uphold the sanctity of the month through commendable conduct aligned with Islamic teachings. He reiterated JHEAINS's commitment to managing matters involving Muslims in the state prudently and in accordance with Islamic principles and laws.

The incident has sparked discussions on social media, with the circulating video showing the woman allegedly drinking water while engaging with her TikTok audience. The case continues to unfold as authorities proceed with their investigation.
