Woman Arrested for Alleged Assault on Daughter at Laundromat

Kemaman: Police have arrested a woman suspected of scolding and assaulting her young daughter at a laundromat here last Wednesday. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli stated that the 45-year-old woman was arrested at her home at 7.27 pm yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the arrest followed the circulation of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording on social media, which showed a girl being scolded and assaulted by a woman believed to be her mother at a laundromat. The suspect was detained and is being held until April 22 under Section 323/18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

Investigations have indicated that the woman’s actions were driven by concern for her daughter’s safety. The child was reportedly running in front of the shop, posing a risk of being hit by a vehicle, prompting the mother to scold and hit her. This explanation was provided in a statement released by Supt Mohd Razi late last night.

The initial medical report revealed that the victim sustained minor injuries to the middle of her forehead. The child is currently under the care of her father. Police have called upon any witnesses to the incident to come forward with statements and urged them to contact the Kemaman district police headquarters (IPD) operations room at 09-859 2222 to assist with the ongoing investigation.
