Win-Win Approach Will Accelerate Sarawak, Sabah Economic Transformation – Abang Johari

Sarawak: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is confident that a win-win approach among Federal, Sarawak, and Sabah leaders can accelerate the transformation of the two states' economies from commodity-based activities towards green, high-tech, and sustainable growth.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari's confidence is driven by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Sarawak and Sabah for the well-being of the people and more equitable and balanced development. In his National Day message, Abang Johari emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony in the multiracial and multireligious society of Malaysia.

Abang Johari highlighted the achievements made towards establishing a modern and progressive economy and society during Sarawak's 63 years as part of Malaysia. He noted that Sarawak's efforts to transform into a regional green economy hub have garnered the attention of international organizations like the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

He also announced plans for an upcoming delegation to Manila to strengthen cooperation with ADB, focusing on developing the green economy and Tanjung Embang infrastructure. Abang Johari reported that Sarawak recorded revenue of RM12.5 billion in 2025 and RM14.2 billion in 2024, marking a significant milestone in the state's financial history. He expressed optimism that state revenue will continue to grow as economic sectors expand, including oil and gas, and through efforts to increase the value chain of the state's resources.
