Wei Chong Aiming To Regain Best Form Ahead Of Thomas Cup

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's men's doubles player Man Wei Chong has admitted that he is still struggling to find his rhythm following his recovery from a knee injury. However, Wei Chong said he is currently working to regain his best form ahead of the 2026 Thomas Cup, which will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wei Chong shared his aspirations and readiness for the upcoming tournament, expressing his determination to perform well if given the opportunity to play. He emphasized his commitment to giving his best effort should he be fielded, noting that there is not much pressure to perform. Reflecting on his recent performance at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC), he attributed his struggles not to his injury but to his own form, acknowledging the need for improvement.

Wei Chong highlighted the importance of enhancing both his game and fitness ahead of the Thomas Cup. He mentioned that his performance is not at 100 percent currently, attributing his setbacks to his own level of play rather than physical injury. He noted that during the BAC, he and his partner struggled with movement and pace, unable to match their world-class opponents. This acknowledgment drives his determination to overcome these challenges.

At the Thomas Cup, Malaysia has been drawn in Group B alongside England, Finland, and 2014 champions Japan. Malaysia's campaign will kick off against England on April 25, followed by matches against Finland on April 27 and Japan on April 29. The men's doubles challenge will be spearheaded by world No. 2 pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, along with Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and professional pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani.
