Kuala lumpur: WCT Holdings Berhad (WCT) has introduced the ESG Queen Bee Programme, a paid supplier support initiative designed to provide training on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects, alongside developing decarbonisation strategies and conducting carbon reassessments over a period of up to two years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme was unveiled at the 'Vendor Sustainability Readiness Dialogue: Prepare for Future ESG and Project Requirements' event, which saw participation from WCT representatives, BSD Consultancy Sdn Bhd, Climate Asia Pte Ltd, and selected strategic suppliers within WCT's supply chain.
The programme's first year will focus on ESG training, knowledge sharing, carbon baseline assessment, and the formulation of decarbonisation strategies. In the second year, suppliers that implement the proposed strategies from the first year will undergo carbon reassessments.
WCT formalised its collaboration with BSD Consultancy through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), setting a framework for the development and implementation of the ESG Queen Bee Programme. Programme fees will vary based on each supplier's operational size and scope.
Climate Asia, a subsidiary of BSD Consultancy, will lend technical expertise in sustainability and carbon-related advisory services to support the programme. WCT Group Managing Director Datuk Lee Tuck Fook emphasized the importance of collective efforts across the value chain for building a sustainable future, highlighting the role of suppliers in this journey.
BSD Consultancy Managing Director Kelly Lee noted that the programme allows WCT to advocate sustainability and carbon tracking among suppliers and partners, positioning WCT as a pioneer in this approach.
WCT, established in 1981 and listed on Bursa Malaysia's Main Market since 1995, employs around 2,000 people and operates in six countries, with core businesses in engineering and construction, property development, and property investment and management.
