WCE Project: Kampung Jawa Residents Apply for Smart Rental Scheme

Kuala lumpur: A total of 19 residents affected by the house demolition and land acquisition for the West Coast Expressway (WCE) Section 3 project in Kampung Jawa have applied for the Smart Rental Scheme offered by the Selangor government. State Housing and Culture Exco Datuk Borhan Aman Shah stated that while all residents have applied, approval is contingent upon meeting state-set procedures such as rental conditions and deposit payments.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Borhan mentioned that although the Selangor government is prepared to provide temporary accommodation through the Smart Rental Scheme, compliance with basic conditions, including deposit payments and rental rates, is essential. These comments were made during the 2025 Ceria Scheme Project Assistance Grant Ceremony, officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Borhan acknowledged the residents’ request for expedited approval but emphasized the necessity to review certain matters, particularly the request for the state to cover a year’s rental cost. He indicated that a six-month rental coverage could be considered, as a year’s coverage would cost the state approximately RM200,000 for all families involved.

The Smart Rental units offered are located within a 10-kilometer radius of Kampung Jawa, with four preferred locations, including units with swimming pools rented at RM900 per month. Borhan noted that the state government has repeatedly postponed the evacuation order to accommodate residents’ requests. Compensation for land acquisition has been processed according to procedures, with 75 percent of the payment completed, and only legal owners will be eligible for the Smart Rental Scheme.

As for the demolition work that commenced today, Borhan confirmed the procedure proceeded smoothly without any incidents. This was corroborated by Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, who reported that the process was controlled and orderly, with local community cooperation and adequate police presence.

The WCE Expressway is a critical infrastructure project spanning 233 kilometers, designed to link Banting, Selangor to Taiping, Perak. It aims to provide an alternative route to the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and alleviate traffic congestion.
