Viral Video Leads To Mother’s Remand In Child Abuse Probe

KANGAR: A canteen worker has been remanded for six days starting today to assist investigations after allegedly hitting her four-year-old daughter, causing injuries when the child fell and hit the corner of a bench in front of a supermarket in Jejawi, Arau.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Arau district police chief Supt Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi stated that the remand order for the 37-year-old woman was granted by Kangar Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor. The woman was apprehended at her rented room in Jejawi at 11.30 pm last night, following the circulation of a video received by the police via WhatsApp around 10 pm. The video purportedly shows the woman striking the back of her daughter’s head, leading to the child hitting the corner of the bench and bleeding in front of the supermarket.

Ahmad Mohsin noted that the incident took place on February 9, resulting in a wound on the child’s right eyebrow that necessitated stitches. The case is currently under investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. He also mentioned that the woman has a husband who is employed as a canteen worker, and they have another daughter, aged two years old.

The 47-second video showing the alleged incident went viral on social media yesterday, drawing significant attention to the case.
