Kuala lumpur: Muslims have been reminded to verify the legitimacy of badal haji (hajj by proxy) offers with the relevant authorities, particularly Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Hasan emphasized the importance of this verification process to protect individuals from scams.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the government has intensified its efforts to monitor such activities. A special team has been formed to oversee operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and to scrutinize social media content for misleading information. Zulkifli assured that if any confusion arises, immediate clarification will be provided by the team. Additionally, students in Saudi Arabia have issued a warning regarding the potential for badal haji fraud.
Zulkifli also addressed the current number of haj pilgrimage operators (PJH), which stands at 31 this year compared to 37 last season. He stated that continuous assessments are conducted to ensure that only qualified companies are permitted to operate. Efforts are ongoing to strengthen the criteria and ensure each PJH meets the standards agreed upon by TH. Despite the presence of many capable companies, only those meeting TH's standards are chosen, and Zulkifli noted an improvement in the performance of PJH companies this year.
