UUM and TYMBA Education Group Forge Partnership to Support Aspiring Accountants from Underprivileged Backgrounds

Alor setar: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and TYMBA Education Group (TYMBA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today to assist asnaf students and the B40 group of the university in becoming certified accountants. UUM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed stated that this MoU aims to dismantle financial barriers that often hinder underprivileged students from obtaining professional licenses.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the collaboration will integrate training and examination platforms for globally recognized professional bodies such as the ACCA, MICPA, ICAEW, and CIMA. "This collaboration is a testament to the university's commitment to enhance the employability of graduates, particularly through the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA-UUM), which is internationally recognized," said Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed.

He emphasized that the cost of professional examinations is a significant constraint for asnaf and B40 students. To address this, UUM is exploring inclusive sponsorship mechanisms, including utilizing zakat funds to finance professional licenses. Prof Dr Ahmad Martadha Mohamed expressed the university's determination to eliminate financial constraints as a barrier to success in the competitive job market. He also highlighted that this initiative aligns with the national goal of producing 60,000 professional accountants in the future.

Meanwhile, TYMBA Education Group's chief executive officer Airil Razali noted that the MoU builds on nearly a year of collaboration between TYMBA and TISSA-UUM. TYMBA is dedicated to supporting accounting students from the start of their university education to their entry into the workforce, focusing on the asnaf and Bumiputera B40 groups. Razali assured that TYMBA is prepared to offer various forms of sponsorship and support to ensure students not only complete their studies but also acquire professional qualifications to become certified accountants.

He further added that their objective is to guide accounting students from university through to their career development, enabling them to contribute effectively to the country's growth as certified professionals.
