UTP, USM Collaborate To Promote Inclusive Education.

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have signed an agreement to expand access to education and promote lifelong learning. UTP, in a statement issued today, said the collaboration will leverage USM’s Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Centre where individuals with relevant work experience and skills will be able to pursue postgraduate by coursework studies at UTP, even if they do not meet the traditional academic entry requirements. UTP Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and USM Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Mohamed signed the agreement.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Ibrahim stated that the partnership aligns with UTP’s commitment to education for sustainable development and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of quality education. “By recognising prior learning and offering flexible learning pathways, we are empowering individuals to reach their full potential and contribute
to a sustainable future,” he said.

He also mentioned that UTP is dedicated to providing accessible and flexible education and has implemented various initiatives, including the UTP Microcredential platform, ULearnPlus, Open and Distance Learning (ODL), and short courses offered through the Centre for Advanced and Professional Education (CAPE).

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman highlighted that the collaboration will create new opportunities for lifelong learning and career advancement through innovative learning approaches and recognising diverse experiences. “Together, USM and UTP aim to enhance the educational landscape, promote lifelong learning and ensure that quality education is accessible to all,” he said.
