UTP and Edra Collaborate to Boost Innovation and Sustainable Energy

IPOH: Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd (Edra) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance innovation, talent development, and sustainable energy solutions. This partnership represents a significant step forward in research, academic excellence, and industry collaboration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, UTP stated that the agreement was signed by UTP Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and Edra Executive Chairman Jiang Xin. The collaboration is seen as a strategic alignment of both institutions’ visions to cultivate future energy leaders and develop innovative solutions for sustainability. UTP aims to merge its research and academic capabilities with Edra’s industry expertise to empower students to contribute to a sustainable future.

As part of the agreement, Edra plans to introduce the Edra Power Holdings Young Talent Programme in 2025, facilitated by Yayasan UTP. This initiative will offer scholarships and apprenticeships to
UTP students, providing them with practical experience and supporting Edra’s sustainable energy objectives. The programme is expected to enhance human capital development and align with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025.

Jiang Xin emphasized that the initiative is crucial for strengthening Malaysia’s higher education and employability landscape. By engaging students in real-world environments at Edra’s power plants, the programme aims to equip them with the necessary skills and experience for successful careers.

Beyond the Young Talent Programme, the collaboration will provide UTP students with internship and career opportunities at Edra. UTP and Edra are also working together on technical talks and exploring avenues for Edra employees to enrol in UTP’s academic programmes as part of Edra’s talent development strategy.

Both organisations are committed to pursuing joint research projects and innovation initiatives addressing global energy sector challenges, focusing on renewable energy, energy effi
ciency, and digital technologies.
