Kuala lumpur: Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has been named the Best Entrepreneurship Institution at the Ministry of Higher Education Entrepreneurship Awards (AKKPT) 2025, held at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday (May 15).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the award was presented by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. The recognition reflects UTHM's continuous commitment to advancing the national higher education entrepreneurship agenda through initiatives to develop the university's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
UTHM vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mas Fawzi Mohd Ali mentioned that the achievement aligns with the university's efforts to cultivate an entrepreneurial culture among students and staff. This is being done through training programmes, innovation competitions, business development initiatives, and ongoing support for high-potential student and staff startups.
He attributes the success to the University Technopreneur Centre (PTU), which plays a key role as the main driver of the university's entrepreneurship agenda. PTU is tasked with planning strategies, coordinating and implementing initiatives related to entrepreneurship development, including data management, reporting, training, competitions, startup monitoring, and the holistic development of the university's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Mas Fawzi also expressed appreciation to the entire university community for their commitment and cooperation in advancing the entrepreneurship agenda, particularly PTU members who serve as the backbone and key strategic planners. He remarked on the significant contributions of time, energy, and ideas by the team, which have yielded commendable results for the university and will serve as a catalyst to strengthen the entrepreneurial culture among UTHM students.
He emphasized that this success proves that teamwork, dedication, and the commitment of the entire university community can produce achievements with a significant impact on the development of higher education and entrepreneurship in the country. UTHM hopes this recognition will further drive efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurship agenda, aiming to produce more competitive, innovative, and resilient graduate entrepreneurs in the future.
UTHM took home RM250,000 in prize money and an additional RM30,000 as a finalist, bringing the total entrepreneurship development fund to RM280,000.
