Port Klang:United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Bertholf is making its second port visit to Malaysia, aiming to strengthen maritime law enforcement cooperation with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the visit is part of the Bertholf's Western Pacific Patrol focused on engaging with Coast Guard partners in the region. The visit includes a law enforcement subject matter exchange and a tour of the USCGC's unmanned aerial asset. An underway engagement with an MMEA vessel off the coast of Port of Kinabalu is also planned.
The cutter arrived in Port Klang on Monday and is scheduled to depart tomorrow. Raphael Sadowitz, US Coast Guard Cutter and Regional Coast Guard Advisor, expressed the crew's excitement to visit Malaysia and appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Malaysian government and Home Ministry.
This marks the second visit of the Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf to Port Klang, with its first visit having occurred in 2024. Commissioned on August 4, 2008, and homeported in Alameda, the Bertholf is the Coast Guard's first Legend-class national security cutter. The 127-meter vessel boasts a top speed of 28 knots, a range of 12,000 nautical miles, and can accommodate a crew of up to 170. Bertholf routinely conducts operations throughout the Pacific, leveraging its range, speed, and ability to operate in extreme-weather conditions to fulfill vital strategic missions.
