Kuala lumpur: Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz will address the recent reduction of US tariffs from 25 percent to 19 percent in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, as announced by Communications Minister and MADANI government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil during a post-Cabinet press conference.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul highlighted the significance of the US decision, stressing that it demonstrates the robust economic ties between the United States and Malaysia. He assured that Malaysia maintained its “red lines” and achieved the new tariff rate without compromising its sovereignty or its socio-economic policies.
The tariff negotiations, which began on May 6, reached their conclusion on July 31, 2025. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently informed Parliament about his discussion with US President Donald Trump, where they explored trade issues, including the tariffs. Anwar noted that after clarifying matters, President Trump agreed to reassess the tariff rate, aiming to finalize the decision by Friday.
