UPSI To Elevate Use Of Jawi Script In Official Communications

Tanjung malim: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) will expand the use of Jawi script in all official university event publicity materials as part of efforts to elevate national heritage and the institution's identity. Its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said the initiative is in line with the university's aspiration, which emphasises values of good manners, moral character and self-identity among the campus community.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the use of Jawi script will also be expanded to official communication materials, including banners, posters, and visual programme displays. Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff stated, 'UPSI will reintroduce Jawi script in university events as part of our effort to return to the roots and origins of the nation and education,' during his address at the Executive Talk 5.0: UPSI Financial Sustainability Post West Asia Crisis, at Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah Campus in Tanjung Malim.

Md Amin emphasized that UPSI, as the country's oldest education university, should play a leading role in preserving Malay cultural heritage and history, including the use of Jawi script, which symbolises the civilisation of knowledge. He noted that the initiative is also in line with the university's current approach under the slogan 'Adab, Akhlak, Akademik' in strengthening the identity of UPSI's community.

Furthermore, he urged the university's faculty members and students to appreciate the history of the establishment of the institution, which began as the Sultan Idris Training College before evolving into today's UPSI. 'We must know where we come from, we must be proud of where we began, and we must preserve this history forever,' he said.

At the same event, Md Amin discussed various university transformation agendas, including reforms in teaching training, adjustments to student assessment methods in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), strengthening academic culture, and implementing cost-saving measures amid current financial challenges.
