Unity Government Unfazed by Proposed BN-PH Strategy in Upcoming Melaka Election

Melaka: The proposal of a 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) and 14 Pakatan Harapan (PH) strategy for the upcoming Melaka state election (PRN) will not pose a threat to the Unity Government, stated Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) communications director Khalid Abdul Samad.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khalid mentioned that the strategy has not been finalized, and a decision would be reached only after discussions and negotiations among all component parties. He emphasized that in the Unity Government, such proposals are common, but ultimately, the parties will come together to discuss and negotiate if necessary.

“Although we are facing the Melaka PRN separately, the seat negotiations will be conducted for the entire country. Even though elections have not yet been held in other areas, the negotiations will cover the entire nation,” Khalid added. He made these remarks to reporters after attending the Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) chairman’s morning assembly with staff at KADA headquarters.

Previously, the media reported that various parties had rejected a DAP proposal that appeared in a Chinese-language newspaper. The report was titled ‘9 DAP Melaka Branches approve the resolution of a 14 BN + 14 PH strategy’ for the upcoming Melaka PRN.

UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki also stated that his party is committed to the basic principle agreed upon by BN and PH to defend the seats each won in the last Melaka PRN. Melaka’s legislative assembly, which consists of 28 state seats-21 controlled by BN, five by PH, and two by Perikatan Nasional-has its term scheduled to end in November next year.
