Putrajaya: Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) has introduced four new programmes, including its first Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Artificial Intelligence (AI), to be offered from September 2025. The new offerings are designed to align with the evolving demands of industries driven by automation, data analytics, and clean energy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the university has also launched a Master of Data Science and a Diploma in Renewable Energy Technology. These programmes aim to cultivate skilled professionals equipped to meet the needs of sectors increasingly influenced by technological advancements and sustainable practices.
Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahari stated that this initiative is part of UNITEN’s broader strategy to remain competitive in the educational landscape. The goal is to produce graduates who possess technical expertise, a global outlook, and integrity. ‘AI and data analytics are key drivers of industrial transformation. We are taking proactive steps to ensure our graduates are job-ready and relevant to industry needs,’ he emphasized.
Prof Dr Khairul made these comments to Bernama following the programme launch at UNITEN’s 2025 Open Day, where he was joined by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) chief executive officer Datuk Ir Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan. The event highlighted UNITEN’s commitment to fostering industry-university collaboration, which was echoed by Megat Jalaluddin. He noted that such partnerships would provide students with early exposure and training, helping to create a workforce prepared for real-world challenges.
UNITEN is targeting an enrolment of 1,500 to 2,000 students for the new programmes, supported by facilities like the Tenaga Nasional Hub. The initiative is part of the university’s LUMINA Strategic Plan, which aims to increase student enrolment to 12,000 by 2030 and improve its standing in the QS World University Rankings, where it currently holds the 551st position globally.
