Selangor: Selangor University (Unisel) pro-chancellor Datuk Dr Anuar Tafsir@Masduki, widely recognized as Dr Anuar Masduki, has passed away at the age of 79. His youngest daughter, Norma Syaneda Anuar, confirmed that he died at 9.28 am at Subang Jaya Medical Centre with family members by his side.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Anuar had been diagnosed with lymphoma and was recently hospitalized for dengue about three weeks prior to his passing. Although he was discharged and appeared to be recovering, he was quickly readmitted when he showed signs of weakness. It was during this time that a brain infection was discovered.
Dr Anuar’s funeral prayers were held at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, and he was laid to rest at the Shah Alam Royal Mausoleum in Section 5 at 3 pm. The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin attended the burial ceremony.
He is survived by his wife and two children, Dr Ainur Rahman Anuar and Norma Syaneda. Dr Anuar had a distinguished career, serving as the personal cardiologist to Sultan Sharafuddin and holding the position of pro-chancellor at Unisel since August 1, 2009.
Dr Anuar earned his medical degree from the University of Malaya in 1971 and continued his education at the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom in 1975. His career included roles such as deputy dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Malaya, acting deputy vice-chancellor for finance and development at the same institution, and various administrative roles in private hospitals.
